Mary Kay Bonneau Moffitt

Mary Kay Bonneau Moffitt, passed into eternal rest on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at her home in McAllen, Texas lying beside the love of her life, James Michael (Jim) Moffit. Mary Kay was born on January 22, 1935, to Albert Bonneau and Georgia Michelson Bonneau in McAllen, Texas. Kay graduated from McAllen High School in 1953 and The University of Texas in 1957 where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity. Kay was an avid Longhorn fan and a Life-Time Member of the Ex-Students Association. Kay loved attending Longhorn Football games as well as Aggie Games with family & friends and was quite an exuberant Longhorn fan. Kay and Jim also loved traveling with the Flying Longhorns and The Traveling Aggies on many wonderful trips around the globe. After college, Kay worked for the American Red Cross as a service nurse in McAllen where she met up again with her high school boyfriend, Jim Moffitt. Kay and Jim married in 1958, then had four children: Michelle, Meredith, Michael, and Melissa (Bonnie). Kay and Jim enjoyed almost 65 years together as each other’s best friend. Kay was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and other OLS Ministries. Throughout her life, Kay served on several philanthropy boards including the McAllen Junior Service League as a life-long sustaining member, The Pan American Roud Table, The St. Vincent de Paul Society and was awarded “Woman of The Year” in 1984 by the McAllen Monitor. Kay was a woman who loved adventures whether scuba diving, underwater photography, skiing the slopes, tennis, dove hunting, visiting Machu Pichu or the Antarctica with her husband Jim and many like-minded friends. Kay had a zeal for life, loved traveling and loved to have fun! Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family who lovingly called her KK. Kay is preceded in death by her beloved sister, JoAnn Drennon and her father Albert Bonneau who died when Kay was 16. Fun fact – after many years of widowhood, Kay’s mother, Georgia then married Kay’s husband’s father, Howard Moffitt. Howard then became not only Kay’s father-in-law, but also her stepfather. Howard Moffitt also preceded Kay in death. Kay is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, James M. Moffitt; her four children, Ann Michelle Putonti, Meredith Kay (Clark) Scroggin, James Michael Moffitt Jr., and Melissa Bonneau “Bonnie" (Mike) Harms; and her fifteen grandchildren, Mason L. Putonti, Dean M. Putonti, Clark C. Scroggin Jr. (Emily), Lillian B. Metcalf (Matt), Jackson J. Scroggin, Ann Claire Scroggin, Micah J. Moffitt, James M. Moffitt III. Bonneau L. Moffitt and Mai Mai Moffitt, Caroline C. Harms, Caitlin B. Harms, Michael G. Harms Jr., James W. Harms, Melissa G. Harms. Lastly, Kay’s 1st first great-grandchild, Mark M. Metcalf. The family wished to express its deepest gratitude for the love and devotion that Elva Rodriguez and Crystal Lucio showed Kay over the last 6 years as well as Gemma Gonzalez, Edith Price and Magda Cervantes and Maria Flores. Visitation will be 6:15 pm, Oct.12, 2023 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (Chapel) followed by the Rosary at 7:15. The Funeral will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (Main Church) at 1108 W. Hackberry Ave., McAllen on Friday Oct. 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers are Kay’s grandsons and sons in law: Clark Scroggin Jr., Jackson Scroggin, Mason Putonti, Dean Putonti, Michael Harms, Jr., William Harms, Myles Moffitt, Bonneau Moffitt, Michael Harms, Sr. and Clark Scroggin, Sr. The family asks that any donations be made to: The McAllen Pregnancy Center, 816 S.
