Laura Lynn Hall

Laura was born on May 11, 1955 as the third child of seven to parents Marianne and Kelly Dan Williams. Growing up in Houston, TX, Laura enjoyed many happy years of family motorcycle adventures and competitive sailing at Houston Yacht Club. At age 17, Laura and her 4-woman crew won 3rd place in the race for the Adams Cup on Lake Ray Hubbard in Dallas. Laura retained her love for the water throughout her life, even living in Hawaii for a time with her siblings. Laura attended Houston Baptist University and University of Hawaii, then finished her degree at UT Austin in 1977. While in college, Campus Crusade for Christ and Billy Graham helped Laura to cement her walk with Jesus. At a Sunday school beach party, Laura met her future husband and, “Rock of Gibraltar” James Hall. Jimmy won Laura’s heart on their second date, when he took her to the circus with his entire family! The couple was married on July 27, 1979 and settled in Jimmy’s hometown of McAllen, TX, where they raised three sons together. Laura was an active member in her church and community. She forged lifelong friendships while serving at Calvary Baptist Church, and teaching within private schools, and the Spring Branch, McAllen, and Mission school districts. Laura had a heart for at-risk schools, and her teaching career spanned 21 years. After retiring, Laura discovered a talent for real estate, obtaining her license and becoming an accomplished realtor for Keller Williams for several years. Laura especially enjoyed her roles as wife and mom. She supported Jimmy’s passion for restoring vintage cars, and encouraged each son’s participation in several sports. Throughout their 40+ years of marriage, Laura and Jimmy’s home was a joyful environment and favorite hangout spot for their children’s friends and families. Laura was an avid cheerleader of the Sharyland Rattler football team and the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, Company E-2. Her joy was multiplied with the welcomed additions of her daughters-in-law and granddaughters, whose female presence finally tipped the scales of the all-boy Hall household! Laura had many special talents and hobbies. Her sunny disposition made her a natural saleswoman, and she excelled as a representative for Avon and Silpada. As self-appointed family historian, her lifelong love of photos and home videos meant that her camera and camcorder were always close at hand. She enjoyed celebrations and looked forward to women’s retreats with her three sisters, and special birthday lunches with her Stonegate ladies, a tradition that began in 1996. Above all, Laura’s love for Jesus shined bright, most notably seen through her strong belief in the power of prayer, and her love of praise music, the louder the better! She was a faithful follower of Jesus, a compassionate friend, and a woman of valor. Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Marianne and Kelly Dan Williams; and her sister, Cindy Williams Carter. Laura is survived by her husband, Jimmy; her sons, Brandon; Andrew and his wife, Meredith; Hunter and his wife, Mary Beth; granddaughters, Lucy and Wendy; three brothers, Danny Williams, John Williams, and David Williams; two sisters, Karen Williams Nelson and Anne Williams Trevino; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. A celebration of life will be held on July 29th at 3:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 Harvey St. McAllen, TX 78501. Reception to follow in the church parlor.
