J. Robert Velado

J. Robert Velado passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and deep family roots that will be cherished for generations. Robert was born in Sonsonate, El Salvador, where his early years were shaped by a rich cultural heritage. As a teenager, he lived in Nicaragua and attended a boys’ school led by Jesuit priests, an experience that helped instill in him strong values of discipline, faith, and service. He later moved to the United States to pursue his education, attending the University of Florida, where he met the love of his life, Constance “Connie” Velado. The two married and began a lifelong partnership rooted in love and commitment. Robert later transferred to High Point College, where he completed his degree. Together, Robert and Connie built a beautiful life and raised three children while living in many places over the years, including El Salvador, Florida, Georgia, Texas, and the Dominican Republic. Through each move, Robert remained devoted to providing for his family and creating a strong, loving home. Robert spent his entire professional career working in agriculture and food production, a field that reflected both his strong work ethic and his connection to the land. He was known for his natural leadership and genuine love of working with people. He took pride in mentoring others, building relationships, and leading with integrity and respect. His ability to connect with those around him left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. In retirement, he settled in Miami before returning to McAllen, Texas, where he embraced a life filled with the things he loved most. He found great joy in raising hell with friends at the McAllen Country Club, riding his horses, and caring for his chickens and vegetable garden at his farm in Alamo, Texas. He had a lifelong passion for model trains and was an avid stamp and coin collector. In his later years, Robert and Connie volunteered together at the hospital, where he served as a transporter, generously giving his time to help others. One of Robert’s greatest joys was the annual week-long family beach trip to North Carolina, a tradition he cherished deeply. These gatherings brought together his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating treasured memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Velado; his children, Maria Degwitz and her husband Hermann Degwitz, Ana Velado, and Robert Velado and his wife Kristi Velado; his grandchildren, Jessica Fuentes and her husband Alex, Aiden Velado, and Callan Velado; and his great-grandchildren, Emma, Robert, and Julianna Fuentes. He lived with his wife in their home for many years, until the last two years of his life, when he moved to Avalon Memory Care. There, he was surrounded by a compassionate staff who loved and cared for him like family. Robert will be remembered for his steady strength, his sense of humor, and his unwavering dedication to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched here and in El Salvador.
