Dr. Jesus Rodriguez Aguero

Dr. Jesus Rodriguez Aguero MD unexpectedly went to be with our Lord Thursday Feb. 2, 2017. Born April16, 1930 in Saltillo, Mexico to Maria De Jesus Aguero and Brigadier General Jose M Rodriguez. Dr.Rod attended the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico graduating in 1953 at 23 years old. He came to the US to specialize in surgery, landing at Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut. Here he met his wife and our mother Joan Marrocco. Together they traveled throughout the US and Mexico in pursuit of Dad’s internships and fellowships; where he honed his vascular and thoracic surgical skills to perfection. Eventually he moved to Harlingen in 1964, bringing his much needed skills to Harlingen State (TB) Chest Hospital. Moving to McAllen in 1965, he went into partnership in the surgical practice of Dr. Love and Dr. Evans. He served almost all the surrounding Hospitals of the Rio Grande Valley, sometimes in tandem. The surgical practice grew with him, taking the helm upon their retirement. His office staff and partners became family who he loved and respected. He practiced and mentored many surgeons throughout his 64 years of service to our community. Mission Regional Medical Center was the one hospital always closest to Daddy’s heart. All of the nurses, doctors, operating room team, and staff worked tirelessly trying to keep up with his energy and stamina. He wanted healthcare to be available to all, and strived endlessly to do so. Recently he was honored with Doctor of the Year for 2016 and Employee choice award. May his legacy continue through those who knew and loved him. He was a compassionate and highly spiritual man who believed all was possible through Christ our Lord. He always told those who he saw “Keep the Faith” (Mantenga la Fe). He was preceded in death by his wife Joan Marrocco Rodriguez. He is survived by sons Mark (Deborah), Raymond, Richard, and Jesse and daughters Diana Ramos (Tino), Vivian Garcia ( Joe), 4 granddaughters, Stephanie Garcia and Cassandra Sferrazza (Vincent), Sophia Rodriguez and Sabina Kuzmina, 3 grandsons, Zack and Tristan Ramos and Joseph Garcia, and 1 great grandson James Sferrazza. He is also survived by his sister Alma “Chita” Delgado and by numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held at Kreidler Funeral home in McAllen on Sunday Feb. 5, 2017 from 4 pm to 8 pm with prayers at 5 pm. Mass in celebration of his life will be on Monday Feb. 6, 2016 at 10 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with burial to follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in McAllen.
