Arturo Chapa

Arturo Chapa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, businessman, and proud member of the McAllen community, passed away Wednesday, July 1st, surrounded by the love of his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humility, and genuine care for others. His quiet strength and integrity touched countless lives and left a lasting legacy among family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Born on December 5, 1936, in Dr. Gonzalez, Mexico, Arturo immigrated to the United States at the age of nine and became a proud U.S. citizen. Through hard work, perseverance, and dedication, he built a life rooted in family, service, and opportunity. Arturo began his professional career as a school teacher with the La Joya ISD and later became a professor at Pan American University, now known as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he inspired and mentored generations of students. He later transitioned into real estate, founding Arturo Chapa Realty and helping countless families throughout the Rio Grande Valley for nearly 50 years. Known for his honesty and professionalism, he earned the trust and respect of clients and colleagues alike. In 1961, Arturo married the love of his life, Yolanda Yáñez Chapa, beginning a partnership of 65 years. Together they built a beautiful life centered on family, friendship, and love. They were deeply involved in the McAllen community and shared a close-knit circle of lifelong friends. Arturo enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing games, golfing, traveling, and creating memories with those he loved most. Arturo was a proud husband, devoted father, and loving grandfather who found his greatest joy in the success and happiness of his family. He believed in treating others with kindness and respect, and he made everyone feel welcome. Arturo is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Yolanda, his daughters Liza (Brian) Finnigan and Luci (Jayson) Childress and grandsons, Ben (Kari) Hinojosa and Josh Childress; along with many extended family members and dear friends. Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Monday, July 6th 2026 between the hours of six and eight o'clock in the evening at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen where a recitation of the Holy Rosary will be prayed at seven o'clock. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at eleven thirty in the morning on Tuesday, July 7th 2026 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in McAllen with Reverend Gregory T. Labus serving as Celebrant. The Interment will immediately follow in Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission. His family finds comfort in the legacy he leaves behind—a life well lived, a family deeply loved, and a community enriched by his presence. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
