Victoria (Vicki) Frances Tharp Casso passed peacefully from earthly life and entered everlasting life on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio after a brief illness. She was born on November 10, 1956 in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduating from high school, she received a bachelors degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She then moved to McAllen and began teaching at various local elementary schools. She later worked in sales and - by chance - met her future husband, David, who survives her to cherish their many beautiful memories. After an intense courtship, they married and soon began having a family. From their union, two children were born who also survive to cherish her memory: Alyssa Frances Casso and Jacob Tharp Casso. From infancy to adulthood, Vicki adored her children, and they did likewise. From the day of their birth, she left her previous “day job” to do her favorite thing: being a full-time Mom. She immersed herself in the lives of her children and did all that she could to guide and raise them properly. She wished for equality for all people, and used her skills as a teacher to encourage her family to respect all others - irrespective of traits or qualities that make people different. Her intersectional feminism is her legacy. In times of crisis in life, we are blessed to be able to call on God’s ultimate wisdom when our own efforts are sure to fail. The Casso family is grateful to the many physicians and healthcare providers who treated Vicki. Particularly, Dr. Frank Salinas provided comforting initial care, and Dr. Ruben Pechero provided keen insight and discernment and was determined to obtain prompt answers to the health questions involved. In addition, Mrs. Viola Cantu, also from Dr. Pechero’s office, and MICU Nurse April Cain from Methodist Hospital are angels on earth. In their own ways, they each provided a generous measure of compassion and invaluable guidance to the family for which we will be forever grateful. Most importantly, the numerous extended family members and friends who visited Vicki or who prayed for her provided us with much love and, with God’s help, the strength to carry on in this difficult time. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen. The family will be available for visitation at 1:30. Vicki’s remains were cremated in accordance with her wishes.
