Leslie was preceded in death by her parents. Leslie is also survived by her dear friend Shannon Murphy (Leslie Sachanowicz), goddaughter Madison (Marshall) Bowen, and many friends from her Barn White girls, Zeta sisters, “Partners in Crime” friend circle, Fayetteville community and many more. Leslie lived life brightly with a contagious laugh and smile that reflected her love for people and togetherness. As an artist at an early age, vibrant colors and style were reflected in her art, fashion, and décor and mirrored her desire to mix people as she mixed paints. At Texas A&I Kingsville, Leslie joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority where she served various roles including President and remained active after graduating, sharing her talents and joy through recruitment and coordinating several founders day luncheons. She graduated with a degree in education and served as a passionate elementary school teacher that left a lasting impact on her students by teaching the importance of kindness and compassion. In 1988, Leslie co-founded Barn White with her sister and mother, a bridal registry and gift shop that has been recognized by several awards including 2001 McAllen Chamber of Commerce Top 5 Small Business Award, 2014 Zonta Club Hidalgo County Professional Business Shining Star Award (awarded to Leslie and Page), and The Monitor’s 2020 & 2021 Reader’s Choice Award (Favorite Gift Shop). Most importantly, Barn White has served as a second family for both patrons and employees creating community and a support network for many. Leslie was an active member of the Junior League of McAllen, PEO and then the Fayetteville (TX) Lion’s Club, and Community Center after taking second residency in Fayetteville, TX in 2019. Leslie brought her creativity to all that she did and enjoyed spending time exploring new art forms both at home and abroad. She loved to travel and shop, incorporating diverse culture and experiences into her life. Some favorite trips included regular trips to San Miguel, Mexico with friends and family taking art and silversmithing classes, enjoying the natural beauty of Alaska with close friends, family excursions skiing across the US, and European vacations exploring historical landmarks across Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and more. Leslie had a generous heart and was always thinking of others, bringing back gifts (“sussies”), mementos and well-wishes from her adventures. Her skillfully crafted artwork and jewelry remain hanging on the walls or around the necks of her dear friends and loved ones that hold her close to their hearts. Funeral services will be conducted by J’Nevelyn Fleming at First United Methodist Church, 4200 N. McColl, McAllen on Saturday, June 11th, 2022. Services start at 11 AM with an optional viewing at 10:30 AM and a reception in the social room to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial donations be made to the Fayetteville Community and Performing Arts Center (https://www.fayettevillecommunitycenter.org/donate) or cancer research center of your choosing.
