Laura Lee McDaniel Wagner was born in Osyka, Mississippi on July 18, 1927 and passed into peaceful repose on January 31, 2022, asleep with Jesus, being 94 years of age. Laura sustained her Christian faith as a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of McAllen, Texas. She was the beloved wife of Otto Wagner, Sr. living on their farm of McCook, Texas. Otto Sr. and their second daughter, Marilyn Baggett, preceded Laura in death as also her parents, Lovell and Myrtis McDaniel, three siblings (sisters Bessie and Winnie and brother Vander), and sons-in-law Leonard Baggett and Charles Cornwell. Surviving children are three daughters and one son: Martha (John William) Bremer of Encino, Texas; Mary (Jerry) Forbus of Keller, Texas; Margie Cornwell, MD of Harlingen, Texas; & Otto Elo Raymond Wagner, Jr of McAllen, Texas. Laura was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Laura and Otto were married shortly after the end of World War II having met at a sponsored dance for the crew of the Battleship USS Mississippi taking port in New Orleans. The couple married December 18, 1945 and first resided in Austin, Texas to move to the Rio Grande Valley and McCook, Texas in 1952. This determined couple dreamed of a family farm and by persevering dust and drought did obtain their place in the sun. True grit cleared the land. Passion and courage planted crops. Years of faith and prayers carried them through. Laura was a loving, gentle woman and her interests centered on family, the domestic church. She could garden, cook, sew, tend stock and drive a tractor. Amen. But, don't forget the fun of dancing, cards and dominoes. Our family gives thanks for the care and love shown to Laura in her last two years by the staff of Waterford Assisted Care of McAllen, Texas. May God bless you all. There will be visitation on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Kreidler Funeral Home of McAllen, Texas. Christian funeral will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Paul Lutheran Church of McAllen, Texas. Laura’s final interment follows at Immaculate Conception Cemetery of McCook, Texas. Pallbearers will be Laura’s grandchildren, great grandchildren, and angels flanking her coffin. May perpetual light shine upon her. Praise God and Laura's life with charitable donations for children as St Jude's Children Hospital and our fallen first responder families by Tunnel to Towers.
