Isobel “Issy” Mall went to her eternal home on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Born in Optima, Oklahoma, Issy graduated from McAllen High School in 1951 and St John’s Lutheran College in 1953. She married her husband of 65 years, Roy, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, McAllen in 1954. Issy was born to be a teacher. She began teaching kindergarten immediately after graduating from junior college and, later, taught elementary at St Paul Lutheran School in McAllen. Issy went on to have a thirty-year career teaching Typing, Business English and Office Education at McAllen High School. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to the Texas Hill Country, living in Rio Frio. Fifteen years later they returned home to McAllen for better access to medical care. Issy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Roy Mall; her daughter, Stephanie Harris (Rodney); her son, Ben Mall; her grandchildren, Jessica Harris Ruiz (J.R.), Jacob Harris (Chelsa), Victoria Mall (Cody Anderson), Katherine Mall; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur & Freda Alpers; her brother, Victor Alpers; her brother, Melvin Alpers (Mildred); and her sister, Ruby Alpers. Issy was an unforgettable personality; loud, opinionated, fun, bossy, and loving. She owned every room she entered and left an impression on everyone she met. She will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at St Paul Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 13th at 11am. Due to covid safety procedures, guests are asked to park in the lot at the south of the building and enter through the Southeast entrance. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Comfort House Services or St Paul Lutheran Church, McAllen.
