February 8, 1930 - August 24, 2017
I Peter 3:4 "The unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of great worth in God's sight." On August 24, 2017, Geraldine Gwendolyn Wayland returned to her heavenly home and is now absent from the body and face to face with our Lord. Her devotion to faith and her unwavering belief in God supported her throughout life and ultimately gave her peace during her declining health. Geraldine was born to the late Glen and Edna Stanley in McAllen, TX on February 8, 1930. She was married to James R. Wayland on May 26,1949, and they were blessed with a large and loving family. She became a widow at the age of thirty-three and was devoted to her six children; she raised them with love and patience. Geraldine was a sweet and gentle person who lived her life with quiet dignity and always had kind words to share with others. Geraldine worked for her son Tom for over forty years. Geraldine is survived by her children: Tom Wayland, Bill Wayland, Joella (Terry) Barbee, Marie (Jim) Heberlein, Nanette (Bill) Cameron, eight grandchildren, and her sister Jackie LeClair. In addition to losing her husband, James R. Wayland, she is preceded in death by her second husband, Fred Bird, and her son, Jim Wayland. All of her children would like to thank her for being their mom. When her children think of her, this Bible verse comes to mind. Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." The family would like to extend a special thank you to Geraldine's caretakers: Alma Almada, Leticia Ocana, Alicia Villarreal, and Rosie Rivera for the dedicated care, love, and kindness they gave to Geraldine. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at 10:00 A.M., at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Memorial contributions may be made to Buckner Rio Grande Children's Home at www.buckner.org/rio-grande-valley in lieu of flowers.
