Elmo “Moe” Hargis peacefully entered eternal rest on November 11, 2021 at the age of 93. Moe was proudly born and raised in the Texas Panhandle. In high school, he met the love of his life Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Hargis, to whom he was married for 63 years. Moe will be remembered for his steadfast faith in Christ, loyalty to family and friends, and contagious positivity. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in everyday life. Moe was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also a devoted worker and patriot, dedicating over four decades of his life to Sun Oil Company after serving our country as a U.S. Navy Reserve Sailor. While living in Richardson, Moe served as a deacon at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas. In McAllen, he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church. The simplest pleasures in life brought immense joy to Moe. He was a wonderful cook and loved enchiladas more than almost anything. He was a skilled hunter, fisherman, woodworker, and mechanic; and he had a bright green thumb. Moe could make the desert bloom! His pleasant personality and clever wit were beacons of light to all who knew him. To know Moe was to adore him. His loved ones will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest with a harmonious approach and a bright outlook. Moe is survived by his three adoring sons, two daughters-in-law, four granddaughters, three great-grandchildren, his loving sister, two nephews, and his niece. His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his wonderful caregivers Patti and Bella, in addition to countless others at Amara Hospice, for their astonishing care and guidance. In lieu of flowers, donations in Moe’s memory can be made to Covenant Christian Academy, 4201 N. Ware Rd., McAllen, TX 78504, or to the charity of your choice. A private “Celebration of Life” will be held by his family.
