Bette Lu (Nichols) Schwarz, 80, passed away on July 9th, 2016, at her home in Belton, Texas. She was born to Hazel Floeta (Hooks) and William Silas (Bill) Nichols on August 4, 1935, at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Gatesville High School, Bette attended Baylor University. Shortly after enrolling at Baylor, Bette met Robert Louis (Bob) Schwarz in the Fall of 1952. They were married May 30, 1953 at First Baptist Church, Gatesville, Texas. They lived in Waco, Harlingen, McAllen, Mission, and Belton. Bette was always active in her communities, and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, P.E.O., Reviewers Guild, WMU. She was a Licensed Professional Counselor and counseled at Step House in McAllen and at First Baptist Church in McAllen, where she had been a member since 1957. She was a trustee of the Baptist Memorials Ministries in San Angelo and served on the Baylor Center for Ministry Effectiveness and Education board. She was President of ADKAR, Inc, and was instrumental in the introduction and marketing of Cloud Cover, a product used to protect plants. She had a passion for helping others. She loved volunteering at church and in the community and cherished the memories she made traveling. She loved her family and friends, and yellow flowers, which she said God always placed in her path. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother Dr. William Silas Nichols (1976). She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Robert Louis (Bob) Schwarz; her children, Robert Louis (Bobby) Schwarz II and his wife Tammy of Odessa, William Arthur (Butch) Schwarz and his wife Mary Jane of McAllen, and Barbara Schwarz Young and her husband Dr. Keith Young of Belton; and her grandchildren, Robert Louis (Trey) Schwarz III, William Albert (Tate) Schwarz, Aynsley Kay Young, Hadley Kay Young, and Brentyn Allen Young. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Baylor University School of Law Faculty Fund (University Development, One Bear Place #97288, Waco, TX 76798-7050), or First Baptist Church of McAllen (1200 Beech Avenue, McAllen, TX 78501). Family visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15th at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen. There will be a private burial at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, Texas, followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday, July 16th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, McAllen, where friends are invited to join the family in celebrating the life of Bette Lu (Nichols) Schwarz.
