Barbara Crockett, 83, a long-time resident of Donna, died Sunday, May 27, 2018 after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. Residing at Waterford Gardens Assisted Living in Mission, Texas, she was surrounded by loved ones as she died peacefully in her sleep. She leaves a large family who loved her more than words can say: Children Joy weber Crockett Anderson (Robert), Kim Weber Crockett McFarland (Stanley), Cindy Crockett Thompson (Brett), Dee Dee Crockett Raulston (Fred) and Daryl Crockett (Jeannie). She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren with two on the way, Sisters Diane Hoelscher and Betsy Droste. She is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Crockett in 1999, and her son, Terry Weber Crockett in 1998. She was also preceded in death by parents Charles & Nora Ruffing and Brother Charles O. Ruffing as well as her first husband Clarence C. Weber. Born on May 11, 1935 in Barrington, Illinois, Barbara moved to the Rio Grande Valley as a senior in high school with her family as her father started his construction company in San Benito, TX. She attended Pan American University in Edinburg, TX. After her children were grown and also attained her Real Estate License. She was long known for her fierce devotion to and love for her children, her sweet and gentle spirit, her bird-watching; and above all else, her steadfast love for her Lord and Savior. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Donna where she served in numerous leadership roles throughout the years. She was an active member of the Donna Hooks Fletcher Historical Museum, and recently received the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing her significant service to her community. Visitation will be at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen on Tuesday, May 29th, from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be at First United Methodist Church of Donna on May 30th, at 11:00 am. burial will follow at Val Verde Memorila Gardens Cemetery.
