Yolanda Lu Ramirez Westerman

Yolanda Lu Ramirez Westerman, 66, died March 13, 2024, at McAllen Heart Hospital after several lengthy illnesses weakened her. Yoli was born in Othello, WA and moved to Edinburg at the age of six where she learned to speak Spanish very well. She had many of life’s experiences early with her family. She loved to travel, cook, read, see movies, music and her Houston Astros. Her husband, Robert Westerman, considered her to be very smart, empathetic, sympathetic, quietly religious and a Latina family treasure full of memories. Yoli had a well-rounded personality. When friends would seek advice or just talk to her, she would always ask about them and their family members before talking about herself. She always sent greeting cards at most all of the holidays. Sorry to usual St. Patrick’s Day recipients. Yoli appreciated her friends from the SAM’s North Pharmacy and especially our neighbor Flor Zamora and Aissa Garza to whom Yoli was a Godmother to her two boys, Abraham Jr. And Alejandro. Also, very special to her was Johnny-O: the Rio Grande Valley's #1 radio DJ from Wild 104. Yoli was preceded in death by her parents Jesus Ramirez and Olga Vale and sister Belinda Ramirez. She is survived by her brothers Jesse (Mandy) Ramirez and Joe Ramirez; sisters Diana (Abel+) Ibarra and Carmen Ramirez. She is also survived by and was very fond of her nieces and nephews: Zachary Ramirez from Jesse ( Mandy); Justin and Kaitlyn Ramirez from Jesse, Gabriel Ramirez from Joe; J.M., Angie and Jennifer Diana (Abel+) Ibarra; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, including former Hidalgo County DA Rene Guerra. Yoli had many jobs over the years which included saleswoman, medical transcriptionist, medical office troubleshooter, and medical office manager where she was organized and kept everything in order. She worked until June 2005 when she lost her eyesight. That was devastating to her as she was very independent and loved to read. This was the start of many health problems which led to her early passing. Along the way she found inspiration listening to Johnny O on Wild 104 whom we consider Rio Grande Valley’s #1 radio DJ. Because of Yoli, I got to meet him and am blessed and honored to call him my good friend. I would like to thank all of our good friends and family who have been so supportive. I would also like to thank Dr. Victor Gonzalez, Dr. Monzer H. Yazji, our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and the fine caring nurses, patient care technicians and wonderful doctors of the McAllen Heart Hospital for all that they did. Take care Yoli and we’ll see you on the other side.
