Rosa "Rose" Cavazos Delgado

Rosa "Rose" Cavazos Delgado, passed away a few days before her 92nd birthday. She was born on March 28, 1933, in McAllen, Texas. Rose's passion for sports and education was evident early in life , and she carried it with her throughout her life in Texas, California and Massachusetts. She peacefully died of natural causes on March 25, 2025. Rose’s life was a testament to the power of education and the impact one individual can have on countless lives. After graduating from McAllen High School, she pursued her bachelors degree in education from Pan American College and also a master's degree in education administration. Rose dedicated many years to teaching physical education and health in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo school district. Her commitment to the well-being of young minds didn't stop at the classroom door; she later became a physical education administrator for elementary schools, shaping the programs that would keep children healthy and active for generations. Beyond her professional career, Rose's volunteer work at Holy Spirit Catholic School and Simonds Elementary in San Jose, California, was a reflection of her altruistic nature. She poured her heart into every endeavor, inspiring students and colleagues alike with her boundless energy and dedication. Rose will be remembered with great love, admiration, and gratitude by family, friends, students and admirers.They will always treasure her loving kindness, generosity, and independent spirit. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Vicente Cavazos and Rosa Salinas Cavazos and husband Luis E. Delgado (Henry). She will also be reunited in heaven with her siblings Henry Cavazos, Emma Cavazos, Vicente “Mickey” Cavazos, Elida Olivarez, Heriberto “Eddie” Cavazos, Eva Flamer, Elva Garcia,and Stella Lewis. She is survived by her two daughters, Norma D. Fleming and husband William C. Fleming, Sylvia Johns and husband William D. Johns, her three grandchildren, Christopher Johns, Elizabeth Fleming, Victoria Fleming and her siblings Esperanza “Hope” Bazan and Hector Cavazos and wife Lucy and 23 nieces and nephews. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Rose lived by this creed, demonstrating that the true measure of a life is found in the strength and love one carries within. Her legacy is not merely in the roles she fulfilled but in the lives she touched with her independent spirit. Today, we celebrate Rose, a woman who turned every challenge into an opportunity, every stranger into a friend, and every moment into a precious memory. As we bid farewell let us carry forward the torch of her legacy—igniting our paths with kindness, generosity, and the spirited life she championed. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 306 S 15th St, McAllen, TX 78501, followed by a burial at La Piedad Cemetery, 1801 Wichita Avenue, McAllen TX 78503 In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Boys & Girls Club of Pharr, 1026 S.
