Ramona C. Diaz

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ramona C. Diaz, who entered into eternal rest on August 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and facing her final moments with courage, peace, and an open heart. Ramona was born on September 16, 1934, in El Sauz, Texas to Maria and Inocencio Canales. She made her home in Rio Grande City for most of her life before spending her later years in McAllen, where she remained until her passing. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pedro Diaz Jr.; her parents, Maria and Inocencio Canales; her brothers, Raul Canales and Inocencio Canales Jr.; and her cherished granddaughter, Annika Simo. Her steadfast faith in Christ remained a beacon of light throughout her life. A devoted Catholic, Ramona was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Chapter Court of Our lady of Mercy #1968 for 56 years and faithfully served as an Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Ramona spent her final years exactly as she had lived all the others-with grit, humor, unwavering faith, and just the right amount of sass. Throughout her life, she was guided by what her family fondly called the five "Fs": Family, Faith, Friends, food and fun. She found joy in cooking, hunting, working alongside her husband in the family business, and above all, in the love of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves behind a lasting legacy through her children, Mary Recio (George), Belinda Diaz, Pete Diaz III (Linda), Hiram Diaz (Francine), Aaron Diaz (Lina), and Monica Aguillon (John), as well as 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love, strength and example. She also leaves behind her treasured siblings: Yolanda Leal, Elia Gallardo and Roberto Canales. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ramona's life on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 620 N. Dunlap Ave. in Mission, TX. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am followed by the rosary at 11:00 am and the celebration of the Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm. The family will hold a private graveside committal.
