Jane Madden Beakey

Jane Madden Beakey ended her courageous six year battle with Alzheimer’s disease early Thursday morning, August 18, 2016, surrounded by her family. She left this world as she entered it; with a gentle and loving nature that brightened every room she entered. Her bright, sparkly eyes and mischievous grin will be missed by her family and friends. Jane grew up in Dallas, TX, graduating from Highland Park High School and attending Southern Methodist University. In Dallas, she met and married the love of her life, Allen Beakey, a cute, red headed local boy. Together, they moved first to Georgia, and then to McAllen in the hotel/hospitality industry. It was in McAllen that they found their forever home; a wealth of dear and cherished friends with whom they embraced and supported this community. Her precious Allen preceded her in death in 1990, after 35 years of marriage. Jane is survived by her daughter, Linda and son-in-law, John Healy from McAllen, TX; her son, Larry, from Austin, TX; grandchildren Sam, Tracie (Dan), Neal, Steven and Madden (Noah). She is also survived by six beloved great-grandchildren; McKenna, Ella Bea, Leah, Tatum, Serenity and Easton. Her family was her greatest joy. Jane was deeply involved in the McAllen community her entire life. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, International Museum of Art & Science, Junior League of McAllen, P.E.O. Sisterhood, McAllen Book Club and McAllen Slipper Club, to name a few! To each of these organizations she brought an energy and zeal that was legendary. She was a dynamo of activity and organization, thriving on helping others and making a difference. Jane was especially devoted to her church, St. John’s Episcopal, and her church family. It was always a joy to sit with Jane on ‘her’ pew where she could be found most Sunday mornings surrounded by dear and precious friends. Jane served in the Altar Guild for many years; happily polishing silver and sharing stories with her team on Saturday mornings. She was also known as ‘Miss Hospitality’ for her scrumptious goodies baked for her monthly stint on the church hospitality committee. Jane’s cooking was legendary and she graciously shared her recipes and baked goods with all. One of Jane’s most ardent passions was the music of George Strait. Jane traveled for more than twenty years with dear friends Jane McGilvray and Sarah Wayland to his concerts all across this country. She was a member of the George Strait fan club and his music was the only tunes she played in her car and her home. Jane’s family would like to thank the Gardens at Brook Ridge and Gentiva Hospice Care for their love and incredible care during these last few months. It made all the difference. Services to honor and celebrate Jane’s amazing life will be held Monday, August 22nd at 10:00 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church in McAllen, Texas with burial afterward at Valley Memorial Gardens on Taylor Road. The family suggests memorial contributions to her beloved church, St. John’s Episcopal, 2500 N. 10th St., in lieu of flowers. Serving as pallbearers are Sam Beakey, Neal Beakey, Steven Healy, Clint Beakey, Steve Beakey, and Dan Norris. Jane lived her life with a sweet, gentle spirit that lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family knows that the Lord has set her on a beautiful and breathtaking path to Heaven. Though we can no longer touch her, we will feel her presence in our hearts forever.
