Irma Irene Martinez

Irma Irene Martinez was born on April 5, 1934, in Riviera, Texas, and went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2026. Irene was 91 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Panfilo Reyes (P.R.) and Eva Alvarez Avila; her husband, Noel Martinez; her nephew, Homero Avila, Jr.; and her brother, Homero Avila, Sr. Irene and Noel married on April 7, 1961, and shared 38 blissful years together. During her marriage, she and her family were members of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen, serving in different church commissions: teaching CCD, serving as Eucharistic ministers, and working as the pastor’s secretary. In 1952, Irene graduated from Donna High School. She attended Pan American College and then Tecnológico de Monterrey. For twenty-five years, she worked in the banking industry, starting as a bank teller and becoming an executive secretary. Later in life, she moved to Porter, Texas, to live with her son and family. Her grandchildren had the opportunity to share their birthdays, school involvement, successes, and their growing childhoods into young adulthood with their grandmother. From taking them to school, cooking her famous rice, to having one-on-one dinner dates with them, she blessed them as much as they blessed her. She is survived by her son, Noel Martinez II, his wife, Yavonne, and three grandchildren: Noel III, Ana Laura, and Alicia Irene. Her surviving nephews and nieces are Patricio P.R. Avila (Sofia), Jose Manuel Martinez (Josie), Titina Avila Garcia (Gabriel), Ludy Avila Studer, Laura Martinez Ilgun, Victoria Humada (Frank), Melissa Smith (Roland), and Tina Guerra (Richard). She leaves behind a host of grand and great-grandnieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Prior to her restful passing, her grandchildren had the opportunity to see their grandmother during their March Spring Break. As a family, we discussed hospice care and prepared ourselves to ensure that she was surrounded by love and those who cared for her well-being. We thank Belkis Garcia for always being available to care for Irene and visiting her on the weekends. We thank Vantage Hospice for their guidance and for making Irene’s mother-in-law suite into a sanctuary of comfort, allowing her to remain home and find peace as she journeyed to reunite with her loved ones who passed before her. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, April 6, 2026, between the hours of five and eight o'clock in the evening at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen, where a recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at seven o'clock. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on April 7, 2026, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Burial will follow at Donna City Cemetery.
