Dr. King Scott Beardsley

Dr. King Scott Beardsley passed away peacefully, on Saturday, August 16, 2025 with his wife, Diana and his youngest daughter, Trina by his side. King was born in Rochester, Minnesota on November 26, 1942 to Dr. Charles Roger and Eleanor Ann Tappen Beardsley. He graduated from McAllen High School in 1962 and completed his Doctorate of Optometry in 1967 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. King, as he was known at work, built upon the foundation his father Dr. Charles established, expanding their family Optometry practice, Dr. Beardsley’s Optical, into a thriving practice in McAllen. Known for his warmth and friendly manner, he built lasting trust with his patients and made each one feel deeply cared for and appreciated. King was the ultimate outdoorsman. He found great joy offshore, where the sea offered both challenge and peace. Fishing was his passion. The thrill of chasing Marlin, Tuna, and Sailfish, and the calm strength of the deep and open blue water were at the heart of his life. Those that fished with him will never forget his skill at the helm and the gift for finding fish, his love for the chase, and the way he turned every trip into a lasting memory. An avid hunter, he pursued everything from waterfowl to big game, and journeyed from local fields to the wilds of Africa. However, off-shore fishing was where he was happiest and where he shared countless unforgettable days with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit, loving his family and friends, his love for his beloved dog Harley, his funny one-liners and will be greatly missed by all! He is survived by his wife Diana Beardsley, his daughters from his previous marriage, Dr. Erin Beardsley McCallen (Dr. Perry) of Knoxville, Tennessee and Trina Beardsley Lindemann (Bradley) of Brenham, Texas. He is also survived by his grand-children: Katherine McCallen Lanzon, Mary McCallen Slonecker (Jack), Perry King McCallen, Jenna Kathleen Lindemann, Lauren Ann Lindemann, Tyler James Lindemann, and one great-grandson, Hamilton Grahm Lanzon. In addition, he is survived by his nieces, nephews, Kathleen Beardsley Hampton, family friend Mary Rodriguez, the Reyes Family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles Roger Beardsley, Sr. and Eleanor Ann Tappen Beardsley; his sister, Barbara Beardsley Gonstead; and his brothers Charles “Charley” Roger Beardsley Jr. and Guy John Beardsley. The family would like to thank his Houston doctors for many years of care especially Dr. Scott Lisse, Dr. Albert Raizner, Dr. Stephen Lapin The Visitation, Memorial service and Inurnment will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery–Mausoleum, 1201 S. Main St. McAllen, TX 78501. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)
