Claudia Isela Guerra

I believe that God took His best angels and made them nurses. Today, we returned one of them to Him. Claudia Isela Guerra was born on June 19, 1970. She was the youngest child of Guillermo and Irma Guerra, who, along with her siblings, Leticia and Guillermo Jr., welcomed her with open arms. Claudia was born with beauty, brains, and a deep desire to help others, which led her to become a nurse. Her hard work and dedication led her to be admitted to the Texas Christian University (TCU) nursing program, where she specialized in pediatrics. She graduated in 1994 and shortly thereafter passed her boards to become a registered nurse. Upon graduation, she returned home to McAllen, where she dedicated herself to children’s health. She was a registered nurse at McAllen Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal Intermediate Care. She went on to become a school nurse at Victor Fields and Ben Milam Elementary. After her school nursing career, she worked at United Healthcare, assuring disabled, low-income children received the medical treatment they needed. Even after she became ill, she continued to work to ensure that their healthcare would not be affected. Her greatest love and lasting legacy were her boys, Cristian and Carlo Martinez, who cared for her and who now will always carry her with them in their hearts. She is preceded in death by her father, Guillermo D. Guerra. She is survived by her mother, Irma Guerra; sister, Leticia Guerra; and brother, Guillermo D. Guerra Jr. She is also survived by Enrique (Zeke) Grajales, the man she loved and who accompanied her until the end. They made each other happy, and he was there with her in the beautiful and most difficult moments. Claudia died the way she lived, always thinking of others. She struggled to share the terrible fact that her cancer had returned because she did not want to be a burden. Her role was always that of the caregiver, and she would not have it any other way. Our beloved Claudia was an avid TCU Horned Frog and lived up to their motto: "Excellence in our pursuit of the greater good." Pallbearers are Rey Castro Jr., Jose (JG) Trevino, Alejandro Canales, Raul Rodriguez Jr., Guillermo Rodriguez, and Gerardo Rodriguez. The family will be receiving visitors at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen on Thursday, April 10th, from 5 PM to 7 PM, with a rosary following at 7 PM. The funeral mass will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McAllen on Friday, April 11th, at 10 AM, with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
