Charles Jefferson "Jeff" Hines

It is with profound sadness his family announces the death from Parkinson’s Disease of Charles Jefferson (Jeff) Hines, MD, in McAllen, Texas, on May 6, 2026. Born September 7, 1949, in Riviera, Texas, Jeff never forgot his small-town roots and maintained his many local friends and relatives all of his life. He graduated from Riviera Kaufer High School, Texas A&I College, now Texas A&M Kingsville, and The University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, Texas, in 1974. Enjoying the water and warm climate, he settled in McAllen, Texas, where he practiced Internal medicine for 40-plus years, caring for his community and seeing patients from all over south Texas. He was known for his sharp intellect and unwavering compassion, often sitting at the bedside of a gravely ill patient all night. He treated many “snowbirds,” mostly retirees who sought warmer weather by spending their winters in McAllen. Jeff told many stories of the repeaters who sought his medical help year after year. Beyond his white coat, Jeff was an avid golfer, bird hunter, and fisherman. He also loved the stock market where he parlayed successful research into his portfolio. Jeff loved to participate in the annual Hines-Martin Family Reunion in Bandera, Texas, for the last 33 years, attending in a wheel chair as recent as July 2025. These times were precious to everyone, cementing love of family, and especially when greeting Jeff and knowing he would be out on the Dixie Dude Ranch porch late at night until early morning, swapping stories with family and friends. As a child, Jeff and his family loved traveling to Estes Park, Colorado, every summer to visit their Grandmother Hines, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. These trips continued throughout his life where he was fortunate to grow ever closer to the Hines family by participating in many mountain activities such as fly fishing and climbing “The Big Rock.” Jeff is survived by his loving wife and companion Yolanda, her sister Patricia Trevino, his children Brooke, Jessica and Zachary, his sisters Kay (Steve) Houston and Kelly (Gerald) Trlica, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Jean Hines and nephew Flynt Houston. Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen, and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2026 at Riviera Cemetery in Riviera, TX.
