Alicia Guerra Anzaldua

Our dear Mother, Alicia Guerra Anzaldua, sadly passed away from the latter stages of Alzheimer's on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the age of 92, at home surrounded by family. A wonderful Mother who was always there when we needed her. One to never find fault with anyone. A woman of strong faith who always prayed the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy each day at 3pm until she no longer was able to do so. Always her mornings and evenings consisted of praying the Rosary. She graduated from McAllen High School in 1951. Voted Best All-Around girl in her junior year and Most Beautiful girl in her Senior year. She attended the University of Houston, majoring in Pharmacy and prior to completion, decided to return to McAllen to assist her father, Jesus M. Guerra, at his Pharmacy "Botica Hidalgo" on S 17th St in McAllen. Working alongside him, in her youth, it was common practice for her to accompany her father on house calls, via her Jeep and Motorcycle. In those days, pharmacists administered vaccines and treated ailments. Shortly thereafter, she married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, Andy Anzaldua, on August 20, 1954. They started a family, welcoming their first born, Jaime; 1 year and 1 day later...here comes Karen; then 5 years later Laura arrived and lastly 4 years later Anna arrived; Quote, as per our Mother, "Anna was a delightful child and her father, Andy, enjoyed her the most". Preceded in death by her husband, Albert (Andy) Anzaldua; parents, Jesus Maria Guerra and Maria Garza Guerra; Siblings: Joe (Lillie Mae+) Guerra, Ramiro "Penny" Guerra, Estella (Amador+) Hinojosa, Hilda "Marre" (Santos+) Ceballos. She is survived by her Children: Jaime Alberto Anzaldua, Karen Anzaldua-Fears, Laura (Alan+) Willingham, Anna (Dennis) Marbach; Grandchildren: Andrew (Alison) Fears, James Albert (Nia Rodriguez) Fears, Christina (Patrick) Stevens, Analicia (Daniel Rodriguez) Alaniz, and Lauren (Joe) Maness; Great-Grandchildren: Xander Gomez, Keira Stevens, Buck Stevens, Adeline Fears, Sebastien Rodriguez, and Jeremiah Rodriguez; brother, George Arturo (partner-Jesus H. Reyna) Guerra; sisters-in-law Millie Guerra, Hermila Anzaldua and Isaura (Luis+) Garcia; many nieces and nephews who reside throughout the United States; and Fur babies Molly and Maddie. Special Thanks to the following people who took such good care of our beautiful Mother; Beacon Family Clinic & Staff - Dr. Ali Naqvi; Good Shepherd Home Health Care - Linda and Meralyn Elaine; Concord Hospice & Pallative - Dr. Eduardo Candanosa, Ida-CNA; Nurses -Jackie, Blanca and Dora along with Elizabeth who always made sure Mother was comfortable and had the supplies she needed. Our heartfelt thanks to our sister, Karen, who gave 24/7 care to our precious Mother. We love you and appreciate you more than you will ever know. We know it was not easy and everyday was a challenge that was met with such a big heart and obstacles were overcome each and everyday. God gave you the strength and much encouragement on a daily basis. Visitation will be held from 3pm-7pm Sunday, May 19 at Kreidler Funeral Home with a rosary at 6pm. Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
